An Encounter with A Topnotcher

August 24, 2012 (Friday) —- The activity inside the Level Four classroom was pleasantly interrupted by the appearance of none other than this year’s Nursing Board Exam’s 2nd placer, Ms. Kristen Erika Pino. At the time, she was being followed by a cameraman of the local TV news doing a story on Cebu City’s highest placer.

The excited seniors rushed to congratulate the smiling and bubbly Miss Pino, taking it in turns to have their pictures taken with her, shaking her hand in the hopes of having some of her good luck rub off on them. The inevitable mounting pressure of matching or even surpassing the success of Batch 2012, who by the way produced 11 other topnotchers, was already staring them in the face.

So the Viewpoint grabbed the chance to ask her a few questions and tips not only for the benefit of hopeful batch 2013, but also for the next batches to come.

TVP: Hi Ate, nag-expect ka nga ma top2 ka?

Pino: Wala ko nag-expect…karon, ma grasp nako ang thought nga topnotcher, dinha man jud akong goal, mao na ang fulfilment sa akong goal, pero ang thought nga top two wala.

TVP: Gi-unsa nimo pagprepare imong self, emotionally, mentally, etc? Unsa pud imong ma advise sa mga mu take pud ug board?

P: Char! Nahumanko sa review akong last nga score 80 something. All other courses or subjects, pwede ramo mag review books..pero ang MS ug FUNDA, basaha gyud ang textbooks. Haha.

TVP: Dayun unsa man imong last preparations the day before, nag relax ka or nag cram?

P: Nag cram ko, my god! Kay magsayo pa bya ko the next day. (laughs)

TVP: Wow, sige ate. Thank you kaayo sa imong tips and for sharing this wonderful account of your experience with us. Congratulations!

And indeed, Cebu Normal University celebrates in the huge success of Batch 2012. You make us proud to be part of the College of Nursing. Godspeed!

Being insanely great is, indeed, not an overstatement!
August 23, 2012 —- Cebu Normal University’s CN Batch 2012 worked magnanimous wonders in getting a 100% passing rate for the Philippine Nursing Board Exam which took place last June 2012, continuing the living legacy that CNU-CN has been confidently maintaining for quite a while. “Ironic”

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It’s a black fly in your Chardonnay
It’s a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think

It’s like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
Who would’ve thought… it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
“Well isn’t this nice…”
And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think

It’s like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
Who would’ve thought… it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything’s okay and everything’s going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything’s gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

A traffic jam when you’re already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It’s meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn’t it ironic…don’t you think
A little too ironic…and, yeah, I really do think…

It’s like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
Who would’ve thought… it figures

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out

Bleed - Hot Chelle Rae

I feel like I’m drowning in ice water
My lips have turned a shade of blue
I’m frozen with this fear
That you may disappear
Before I’ve given you the truth

I bleed my heart out on this paper for you
So you can see what I can see
I’m dying here (I’m dying here)
‘Cause I can’t say what I want to
I bleed my heart out just for you

I’ve always dreamed about this moment
And now it’s here and I’ve turned to stone
I stand here petrified
As I look you in your eyes
My head is ready to explode

I bleed my heart out on this paper for you
So you can see what I can see
I’m dying here
‘Cause I can’t say what I want to
I bleed my heart out just for you

And it’s all here in
Black and white and red
For all the times
Those words were never said

I bleed my heart out on this paper for you
So you can see what I can see
I’m dying here
‘Cause I can’t say what I want to
I bleed my heart out just for you

I bleed my heart out just for you

INTRAMURALS 2012: To Make or To Break?!
As we are all aware, tomorrow marks the day that all athletes and participants await (or even dread). INTRAMURALS… it rings such nostalgic sounds of triumph and so of frustration.
Most people who are wary and unmindful of the line of events that will happen won’t probably sympathize with the sacrificial routine of athletes drenched in sweat under the heat of the sun, dancers harboring blisters from hours of twirling and swaying, singers straining their melodious voices just to hit the perfect pitch, and student organizers/managers who run back and forth to check on everything that needs to be accomplished as soon as possible.
What good can we get out of these strenuous sacrifices? Medals? Trophies? Certificates of appreciation?! No. These earthly tokens are with no match compared to the pride and confidence we are about to bring forth for our humble college. We may be outnumbered, little and meager compared to the other departments, yet we are still evidently trying to hold up that small spark of hope that somehow, we can give our opponents a good fight. Losing is not synonymous with weakness, rather, it is a catalyst for more determination and courage to keep the fire burning.
Having fun all throughout this event is also deemed essential. CNU is not home to rascals and street fighters who gang up on those who are frail.. rather, we are friendly foes.. we exercise the values of camaraderie and sportsmanship. We are civilized fighters, who don’t just barge in without enough ammunition. We are never fazed by the big challenges that await us. We are always holding our heads up despite the pitfalls along the way. We are never alone in this joust, for we are forever guided by Him who gave us all our skills and capabilities.
Tomorrow, we are not just the clinical instructors or the Level 1, 2, 3, or 4. Tomorrow, we stand side by side, together, as the College of Nursing.. ready and confident to start this game on.
One team, one goal. GO NURSING!

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
